Salvation:What Does It Really Mean To Be Born Again?

If you have ever wondered what it means to be born again or the concept of salvation and how it can transform your life, this article will provide a detailed explanation on the fundamental concept of salvation in Christianity, its significance, and how you can embrace this precious gift from God.

What Is Salvation?

Salvation simply means to be saved(restored back) by God. You may wonder why you or anyone ever needs saving? We'll explain! But you must understand that Salvation is God's gift of restoration to mankind through His son Jesus Christ, His plan to restore man back to the original intimacy man enjoyed with God. (John 3:16)

Why Do We Need Salvation?

After the fall of Adam in Genesis 3:23-24, man originally lost his free and unrestricted access to God and the sinful nature naturally took over as a result of Adam's disobedience to God in the garden of Eden.  (Romans 3:23), This made every offspring of man a sinner by default and since God could not behold sin(Habakkuk 1:13), man had to atone for his sins in the old testament with the sacrifice of animals as stipulated by the priest(Leviticus 5:6). But even this couldn't do a permanent cleansing, it was a matter of time before he would sin again.

What was worse? The more man tried to avoid sinning according to the requirements of the law, the more he continued in his sins and it became really hard to even please God. If this sounds familiar and you currently feel that way too, constantly struggling with sinful desires, habits or addiction, Apostle Paul explained In Romans 7:13-18 about the sinful nature and how it is always a struggle for man.

So God decided to step in and rescue man from this sinful nature. Yes he hated the sin as an Holy God but that didn't stop His immense love for the sinner (man). He provided salvation as a gracious gift to humanity that offers forgiveness of sins and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16-17).

Through salvation, we can:

Receive forgiveness for our sins

  • Be reconciled with God
  • Gain eternal life
  • Find purpose and meaning
  • Experience true peace and joy
  • How Can I Become Saved/Born Again?

     1. Acknowledging Our Need

The first step toward salvation is recognizing our sinful nature and understanding our need for a Saviour. This acknowledgment opens our hearts to God's transformative work and makes us willing to repent of our sins.

    2. Understanding God's Solution - JESUS

God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross as payment for our sins. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus became the only means of restoration between humanity and God, making salvation possible for all who believe(John 14:6)

    3. Accepting Christ as Savior

Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). As simple as this sounds, this is the only way to receive God's salvation - to believe!

What Happens When I Become Born Again?

    When we accept salvation, here is what happens to us;

    1. Spiritual Rebirth: We become new creatures in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
    2. Adoption: We are adopted into God's family. We are now God's children(Romans
    3. The Gift of the Holy Spirit: We receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit(John 14:26)

    4. Purpose: We discover our God-given purpose, who we are really meant to be in God's plan (2nd Timothy 1:9)

    5. Eternal Life: We gain assurance of eternity with Him, spending time with God forever. (John 14:2-3)

How Do I Grow As A Born Again Christian?

Congratulations! Now that you are saved, you must understand that salvation is not just a one-time event but the beginning of a transformative journey. Here's how to grow in your new identity as a child of God:

  • Regular Bible study and prayer
  • Active participation in church community
  • Sharing your faith with others
  • Serving others in love
  • Continuous commitment to spiritual growth
  • Common Questions About Salvation

    Is Salvation Free?

Yes, salvation is a free gift from God through faith. We cannot earn it through good works or merit (Ephesians 2:8-9).

What if I've Done Too Many Bad Things?

No one is beyond God's grace. His forgiveness covers all sins when we genuinely repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

Taking the Next Step - What Do I Say To Get Saved?

If you're ready to accept God's gift of salvation, you can take that step right now through a simple prayer of faith. Remember, the words themselves isn’t the major thing gets you saved, it's the sincere belief/faith in Jesus that matters. However it is still important to confess it with your mouth as admonished in Romans 10:9.

Here's a simple prayer to guide you:

"Dear God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of your grace. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose again. I accept Your gift of salvation and invite Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen."

    Conclusion

Salvation is the greatest gift you can ever receive. It transforms not only your being but also your daily life. If you've accepted Christ as your Saviour, we celebrate you and welcome you into God's family. If you're still considering it, we encourage you to take that step of faith today.
